Each year, during the late summer months, the town of Reykjanes launches its´ so-called Light Nights, essentially a festival highlighting the work of local artists. This year it was decided to acknowledge the contribution of the regionˋs large Polish contingent to the social, economic and cultural well-being of the Reykjanes community by, among other things, inviting the Jan Fejkiel Gallery of Kraków, a Polish institution of international repute, to select the works of some of Poland´s best-known printmakers for an exhibition in the Reykjanes Art Museum. The Jan Fejkiel Gallery graciously accepted our invitation. The exhibition itself was curated and hung by art historian Aðalsteinn Ingólfson, a longtime associate of the museum, and given active support by the Polish Embassy of Iceland. We would like to extend our gratitude to Jan Fejkiel and Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson, as well as Ambassador Gerard Pokruszyński.
We are delighted with the result, which demonstrates the vitality, imaginative and intellectual resource, as well as the sheer technical mastery of contemporary Polish printmaking.
