Sólveig Aðalsteinsdóttir
Biography
Sólveig (b. 1955) works in various media and uses different techniques to realize her artwork. Her work includes sculptures, drawings, and photography, often documenting a given time and place.
Her works portray everyday reflections of time and surroundings, where the border between internal and external realities are not necessarily clear. Her drawings are often a research on architectural elements, measurements, shapes and proportions.
Sólveig studied at The Icelandic school of Arts and Crafts (1974 - 1978) and then went on to further studies in N.Y. and Holland. Along with her art practices Sólveig is a practicing art teacher, mainly working at The Reykjavik School of Visual Arts. Since 1980 Sólveig has exhibited her work extensively in Iceland and abroad.
Works by Sólveig can be found in the collection of The National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavik Municipal Art Museum, ASÍ Art Museum and various other institutions. In 2012 Sólveig created a permanent outdoor installation Streymi tímans, (The Passage of Time), for Reykjavik Municipal Art Museum. The installation is located in the City of Reykjavík.
